Individual requirements and reasonable adjustments

Request adjustments when you apply and check what ICE can provide.

Use this material to examine your own work. Confirm current requirements, forms and dates with ICE before applying.

ICE states that it is committed to reasonable adjustments for Professional Review. Explain your requirements in the application when you apply.

Requesting an adjustment

ICE's examples illustrate possible adjustments. An adjustment should reflect your normal way of working and avoid giving an unfair advantage. Consider arrangements you already use at work to manage a condition.

  • Include the request and supporting evidence with your application.
  • Career Appraisal and Professional Review both have this provision. An adjustment for Career Appraisal does not carry across automatically; request it again for review.
  • ICE offers a confidential conversation if you prefer to discuss your needs.
  • Use the individual requirements section for commercial or security restrictions on discussing a project. See security-sensitive work.
  • Record a specific requirement or preference for an in-person review there too. ICE's default position, on carbon grounds, is not to accept requests from candidates who would need to fly to attend.

Accessibility

The learning tools support keyboard use. Timers announce their state to screen readers, essential information is available without relying on colour or hover, and animation respects reduced-motion preferences. Please tell us if you encounter a feature you cannot use.

Questions to ask yourself

  1. What do I already do at work to manage this?

ICE's test is that an adjustment reflects your normal way of working. That is usually the best place to start when deciding what to ask for.

  2. Have I left it until the notification letter?

The request belongs on the application form, with evidence. Raising it four weeks before the review is late.
