Use this material to examine your own work. Confirm current requirements, forms and dates with ICE before applying.

An existing professional registration may provide evidence that you have completed IPD. Some registrations also allow a recognition route in place of a full application. The arrangements depend on where you are registered.

Recognition arrangements

Recognition of registration as evidence of IPD completion removes the need for Career Appraisal or a Training Agreement. You still submit a full Professional Review application and attend the review.

Under a recognition agreement, ICE may admit eligible engineers without a standard Professional Review. Agreements and their coverage change. Contact the person listed in ICE's current guidance with your CV and professional qualification details.

ICE's Career Appraisal guidance directs engineers who have completed HKIE Training Scheme A in civil or geotechnical engineering, and hold a qualification recognised for the CEng educational base, to apply directly for Chartered Professional Review.

Questions to ask yourself

  1. Am I asking about recognition, or about my educational base?

They are different questions handled by different parts of ICE, and asking the wrong one costs weeks.

  2. Is my registration current?

ICE's wording is about current registration. A lapsed registration is a different conversation.

  3. Do I have certified copies?

Any evidence you provide must be certified as a true copy of the original, in the same way as educational qualifications.
