Use the worksheet for your own planning and reflection. For a formal submission, use the current ICE or IStructE form. Completing a worksheet does not certify competence.
What to record
Project and client
Anonymised if necessary.
Value and scale
Construction value, your budget, team size, duration.
Contract and procurement
The form of contract and what it meant for risk.
My role and reporting line
Who you reported to, and who reported to you.
Key decisions
Twelve to twenty, one line each. This becomes your report skeleton.
What went wrong
Every project has something. Write it down while it is fresh.
Health and safety
Your duty holder role, hazards removed, residual risks recorded.
Commercial
Budget, variance, changes assessed, commercial decisions.
Sustainability
What changed because of it, with numbers where you have them.
People
Who you led, influenced or developed, and how.
Lessons
What you would do differently, and what you have done differently since.
Use it well
- Do this for your two principal projects and you have most of a report already.
- The 'what went wrong' section is usually the most valuable part at interview.
