Why it matters

You need to explain your own work and the reasons for your decisions at review.

What you will understand

  • Use the current institution instructions to plan submission and assessment.
  • Choose examples that show your own role and judgement.
  • Practise answering questions about alternatives, risk, ethics and learning.

Core material

Read the live instructions for your route before planning documents or dates. Assemble a consistent account across CV, report or portfolio, CPD and discussion. A colleague can help by asking where a decision came from, what you checked and what you would do if the assumption changed.

Engineering example

When a reviewer asks why an option was rejected, explain the constraint and evidence that led to the choice. Avoid describing the project as if the whole team’s decisions were yours.

Reflection questions

  1. Can you explain your most important decision without your slides?
  2. Which part of your evidence would a thoughtful reviewer question?

Practical exercise

Run a short mock discussion on one project. Ask the listener to interrupt whenever a claim lacks a reason, outcome or clear responsibility.
