Review technical work against ICE attributes at Engineering Technician level.

Read the EngTech column

ICE publishes different expectations for EngTech, IEng and CEng. Use the EngTech wording and consider every required part. The headings below identify the areas; the official source gives the complete requirements. One project may support several areas, but explain the contribution relevant to each.

Explore each attribute

  1. 01

Understanding and Practical Application of Engineering

Read selecting a method and checking a practical result. A checked measurement record, method note or annotated drawing.

  2. 02

    Management and Leadership

Read organising work and accepting responsibility. An issue schedule, task plan or quality record.

  3. 03

    Commercial Ability

Read using time and resources with regard to cost. A task estimate, resource comparison or scope-change record.

  4. 04

    Health, Safety and Welfare

Read recognising hazards and following safe systems. A permitted inspection note, risk communication or revised method.

  5. 05

    Sustainable Development

Read considering environmental effects in technical work. A checked quantity comparison, waste record or reuse query.

  6. 06

    Interpersonal Skills and Communication

Read helping a recipient understand and act. A permitted sketch, query and response or communication record.

  7. 07

    Professional Commitment

Read working ethically and keeping competence current. A redacted decision record, CPD reflection or development plan.

Build an evidence map

Index the attribute, task, supporting reference and gap. Begin with a few useful work items and examine them thoroughly. Add examples where those items do not demonstrate the required breadth. Seven general statements about employer procedures will not show what you did.

Keep attendance records and practical evidence distinct. A course explains how you learned a method. A work record shows how you applied and checked it. Both can be useful when their purpose is clear.

Engineering example

Illustrative setting: revising a drainage detail

THIN ACCOUNT

I produced drawings and worked safely.

MORE USEFUL ACCOUNT

I compared revised levels with the design information and found a conflict at an existing connection. I marked it, asked the engineer to confirm the arrangement and updated the detail after the response. I retained the checked revision and query.

The task can support practical application and communication when the separate contributions are explained.

Before claiming coverage

For personal preparation. Ticking these checks does not confirm competence or eligibility.
