Considering environmental effects in technical work.
Examine your work
Keep claims proportional to your role. A quantity reduction may inform a carbon assessment, but a carbon saving requires a checked boundary, material data and calculation.
Start with one task you can describe from beginning to end. Identify what you were asked to produce, the information available and decisions within your authority. Read the full EngTech requirement before deciding which part your example supports.

Illustrative setting: a material schedule revision
I understand sustainability.
I corrected duplicate items in a schedule, checked quantities against the revised detail and asked the designer which existing components could remain. I recorded the assumptions so the comparison could be checked.
Use the structure to examine your own work. Do not copy an invented example or claim a responsibility you did not hold.
What to record
A checked quantity comparison, waste record or reuse query. Explain the date, revision, your action, the checking arrangement and what happened afterwards. Annotate the relevant detail so a reader can follow the claim. Obtain permission before sharing employer or client material.
If the task ended with a referral, explain why that was appropriate and what you learned from the response. A referral can demonstrate recognition of a technical or professional limit.
Questions to ask yourself
- What environmental effect could your task influence?
Use a particular task and explain your reasoning.
- What could a colleague verify?
Identify the original record or the person who reviewed it.
- Where is the evidence weak?
Agree a practical opportunity to address the gap.
Discuss with a mentor
Bring the example and its source record. Ask your mentor to challenge the weakest part, then revise the explanation in your own words. Record an agreed action and revisit it at the next meeting. The evidence worksheet provides prompts for these notes.
