Use this material to examine your own work. Confirm current requirements, forms and dates with IStructE before applying.
Examine evidence for this Technician objective. Minimum standard: Knowledge.
Examine your task
Explain the hazard, affected people and the referral or information needed. Consider construction, use and intervention within the task’s scope.
Choose work where the contribution is yours and a record supports the account. Give structural context, then focus on your part. Explain who supplied design information, what you could decide and what needed checking. Keep claims proportional to the work.
Engineering example
Illustrative setting: a hazard communicated in a drawing
I completed safety training.
I identified a detail that could be misunderstood during installation, raised it with the engineer and added agreed information to the checked issue. I explained the residual concern in the handover.
This is an original teaching example, not an assessed submission, official model answer or real project record.
Evidence and reflection
Consider a permitted hazard note or risk-related revision. Identify the revision, relevant location and contribution. Explain what it demonstrates and its limits. Obtain sharing permission and retain engineering context after redaction.
Discuss one uncertain part with a mentor. Ask them to question your reasoning and the scope of the check. Record what you now understand and what needs further work.
Questions to ask yourself
- What risk remained after the change?
Explain a particular event and its reasoning.
- Which requirement does this demonstrate?
Compare it with official wording.
- What experience remains missing?
Agree a practical action and review date.
Practical exercise
Annotate a permitted item and explain its relevance in a short note. Ask a colleague to identify your role from the note alone. Revise unclear wording and add it to the objective index. Keep an example as development evidence if it does not yet reach the required standard.
